Moss Art FAQs
-
This is probably my most commonly heard question! All of my art is created with natural materials like mosses, flowers, birch branches, sponge mushrooms, but the materials are no longer living. Mosses are preserved with glycerin and plant-derived pigment so they look and feel alive and fresh, but they are no longer in need of any plant care whatsoever. All flowers are also either preserved or dried. So, your art is designed to bring a piece of nature indoors without needing any plant care.
-
A living or dried plant is soaked in a solution of glycerin, water, and naturally derived pigments in order to rehydrate it. It is then cleaned and dried again.
-
Moss art will stay beautiful and vibrant for 10+ years with proper care. Art should be kept away direct sunlight and should not be touched or handled.
-
After going through the process of stabilization or preservation, the moss is no longer alive and does not require any plant care.
-
A humidity of 45-65 percent is ideal for moss to retain its springy texture. You may notice the moss feels more dry in the winter as a result of heaters and a lower humidity. Don’t worry, the moss will regain its texture when heaters are turned off and humidity rises. Note that it’s important to display your art in a place where it will not be touched or handled, especially by children or animals.
